Okcupid Dating App
OkCupid is the first dating app to introduce 22 gender and 13 orientation options. It was called “revolutionary”. We called it “about time”. OkCupid is the only dating app with thousands of questions––on everything from climate change to cilantro––that match you on what matters. Registration is free. OKCupid is owned by Match Group, which also owns Tinder, Hinge, Plenty of Fish, and many other popular dating apps and sites. While the site and app once supported multiple modes of communication, this has been restricted to messaging. OkCupid was listed in Time magazine's 2007 Top 10 dating websites.
Major dating apps including Tinder and OkCupid are reportedly set to add “vaccination badges” to dating profiles. Beyond the special badge on users’ profiles, the platforms have agreed to give special benefits to date seekers who say they have been vaccinated, and some platforms will allow searches to be filtered by vaccination status.
The Hill reports that major dating apps are adding vaccination badges and special benefits to users’ profiles who confirm that they have received the coronavirus vaccine in efforts to reach Joe Biden’s July 4th inoculation goal.
An announcement from the White House stated: “In support of President Biden’s goal of getting 70 percent of adults at least one shot by July 4, the largest dating apps in America will launch new features to encourage Americans to get vaccinated.”
This news comes after President Biden earlier this month announced that the White House was aiming to administer at least one short of the coronavirus vaccine to 70 percent of adults by July 4th.
Tinder, Hinge, Match, OkCupid, BLK, Chispa, Plenty of Fish, Bumble, and Badoo have all reportedly agreed to give special benefits to users who get vaccinated and add a new “vaccination badge” to their profile.
Tiner is allowing vaccinated users to get access to free premium content such a “Super Like” and is encouraging users to add “Getting Vaxed” or “Vaccines Save Lives” badges to their profiles.
OkCupid users who add the “I’m Vaccinated” badge will receive a free “boost” to their profile and from early June onwards, users will be able to search for vaccinated users in a system called “Vaccinated Stacks.”
The announcement states: “According to research from OKCupid, people who are vaccinated or plan to get vaccinated receive 14% more Matches than people who don’t plan to get vaccinated.”
The dating app will also be providing information about the vaccine and links to vaccines.gov. Everyone above the age of 16 in the United States is now eligible for the vaccine, but vaccination rates have slowed since a dash to vaccination sites earlier in the year. Some state governors have announced lotteries for those who receive a coronavirus vaccine.

While governors in various states are offering a chance at cash prizes to those who have gotten their COVID-19 shots, dating apps are heating things up with alluring vaccination-related features like badges, super swipes, and other “premium” perks.
In a blog post Thursday, OkCupid announced that it will release “I’m Vaccinated” profile badges starting on May 24, and anyone who applies the badge in the first 48 hours will get a free “Boost.” OkCupid will also hook up unvaccinated users with resources to get a shot.
Vaccination has already proved a tantalizing feature for potential partners on the app. OkCupid reports that users who say they are vaccinated or are planning to get vaccinated are getting 15 percent more likes and 14 percent more matches while having 4.5 percent more conversations.
In a White House COVID-19 press briefing Friday, officials highlighted the work of OkCupid and other popular dating apps encouraging users to get vaccinated—with some noticeable giggles intermixed.
Senior White House advisor Andy Slavitt awkwardly went through a list of dating apps and vaccination features as chief medical advisor to the president Anthony Fauci, Surgeon General of the United States Vivek Murthy, and Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Rochelle Walensky looked on, sniggering and grinning.

“Social distancing and dating were always a bit of a challenging combination,” Slavitt said as he tried unsuccessfully to read pre-written remarks with a straight face. “But today, dating sites like Bumble, Tinder, Hinge, Match, OkCupid, BLK, Chispa, Plenty of Fish, and Badoo are announcing a series of features to encourage vaccinations and help people meet people that have that universally attractive quality: They’ve been vaccinated against COVID-19.”

After noting vaccination badges and OkCupid’s boosted matchmaking, Slavitt reported that dating apps would also offer filters so users can see only people who have been vaccinated. Many will also provide “premium features that I cannot get into but apparently include things like boosts and super swipes.”
“All right, got through that,” he said, ending his pre-written remarks.
Though the White House was in talks with dating app companies to encourage their efforts, the administration didn’t establish an official partnership with the companies, which collectively reach 50 million people, Slavitt said. The companies were already working on vaccination-related features on their own.

“In all seriousness, people are interested in other things in life besides their vaccine,” Slavitt said later in the press briefing during the question-and-answer segment. “While it is kind of a funny thing to talk about, the truth of the matter is, people do want to get back to their normal lives… I applaud the initiative on these companies’ parts.”
